The civilization as we know it no longer exists. All that remains are vague memories of days gone by. The world, roam the man and his son is like an apocalyptic moonscape: gray, covered with ashes, destroyed roads, burned trees, abandoned houses, starving, desperate people. Cannibalism and violence prevail everywhere. The only constant companions of both is fear. In the south, along the ocean, seems a better life to be possible. This hope is replaced by the father and son, the last remaining live.
Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" is considered the largest so far, perhaps literary achievement of the young millennium. The Australian John Hillcoat (The Proposition) gives the post-apocalyptic tale of survival of a father and his son's impressive to life without having to indulge in clichés or conventions. Driven by an even more about human performance by Viggo Mortensen, this hopeless view of the world after the fall gripping cinema without concessions.
