Tamil Inivitaion Poet
arrived in Porto Novo (the trip takes about an hour even if it's only 30 km) we were then distributed to our projects. With me in the project is called Frankfurt Raphael, with whom I will live the next year together. Is a nice so that's no problem ...
The first act "in office" was then that we the Mayor of Porto Novo were presented, which initiated the project in which we work to life. After a minute we were outside again but at least he saw us once ...
then only once in the home and unpack. The way, is really amazing! The house is a palace, the apartment huge. We have four bedrooms (The devil knows what, we're only two, but at least you can even invite other volunteers: D), a large living room, a balcony, a Abdezimmer and a "kitchen". Containing a room with two tables and a two-plate stove camping. But running. In the bathroom, although there are only cold water (even in the shower) but since you have become accustomed quickly turn, you will not always warm shower at the temperatures and at least one is then quickly finished ;-) This übrigesn a warm invitation to all who want to visit me, you see, we have included enough space around you: D
After that we went into town for the first time to have various things to fear: Spülschüssel, knife for cooking, soap, toilet paper, you need way it is. Now we are ready for now.
Tuesday and Wednesday we were the first time in the project and have the first sobering experience: yawning boredom, there is nothing to do. This is due to the fact that just being on vacation, which means there are no students on the other hand already but also because the people that work here just generally not as pronounced a lot ... My task for the day was then guitar practice to prepare for the school year. Although not really uncool, but after six hours of ache but somehow the finger ... And you have to pull themselves together on ...
Thursday and Friday then gabs a bit more action, the school had in fact educational days. On this occasion we've received from their visitors, that has a Togolese the part as a consultant on the days and a French audio engineers (who looked like Bob Marley!) With his wife and child who used to work for our project and still lives in Benin. That was cool insofar as that the house was something more going on. Sure it's nice to have a great apartment in a big house, but it has some disadvantages: When no one except the night watchman is there, able also quickly become too large. Well, now they are gone, we will probably have to re-arrange it ...
As such, we have already settled down pretty well: We know the market in the district know how far you down must act in order not to much to pay to know the city a bit and have even learned to drive hands free Zem: D
A brief word about this: The Zem (Zemidjan ) is the most common here transportation: A motorcycle taxi. They say where it goes, the price is down by half (at the beginning, they always try to cut the stupid white men over the ear ...), sits down the back and go through the traffic turmoil. This one is getting a little looked strange: one is because you know the second time because of the helmet, with no one on here. But since we are anyway different, we can also what to do for our safety ;-)
rules for road transport, there are a few: The loudest horn goes first, as an alternative to the car with the thickest grille ... or dependent on that of the three test tailgating. Your right is theoretically yes, but somehow no one here knows. Or it is a blind, I do not know. Roads have been so many tracks such as space, it is clear, and really there is nothing so to speak something against 250kg cement would be transported on a moped. Or, two refrigerators (seriously!). Accidents I have not seen yet, but this is not because there is none, I've only seen a halt. Also as here in cars can ski through the area inspires a not exactly trust. A stranded truck is a common sight. Is no surprise with the cart, I will on occasion even take pictures. There
gasoline here by the way usually not at the gas station, but at stands along the road, Here a large carboys and several minor (whether beer, cola or whatever earlier in it was), that the fuel is then introduced. The fuel is imported illegally from Nigeria and costs 250-300 francs a liter. They are about 40 to 50 cents.
is at all the life here is very cheap, unless you're buying at the supermarket. cost on the market 300 francs ten onions, tomatoes, a basket 100, a pineapple 100-150, depending on size. Lunch you can very well in several small street restaurants, a plate of rice or sponsor Rouge (maize porridge and tomato soup) is located at 200 F with sauce, a drink costs 300, so you end up with a total of less than one euro. But one can hardly cook yourself ... Today I've
me with the other volunteers made tuned Porto Novo to explore. After we have delivered on Raphael taxi to Cotonou (short prayer that he comes included), we went to the Zem in the inner city and have simply been looking times. Is a nice city, though of course very different than in Germany. Photos have
I even made a few already, but unfortunately today I forgot my digicam when I went into the project (there have only Internet), so I see the pictures at some point late filing.
So, this should be enough for today also, when you have to eat back home what. Until the day
Jonas
